In the game of toasting local pumpkin seeds, you might have to get your hands a little messy. Due to the extraction process, you risk getting covered in pumpkin pulp. Consider letting the kids gut the pumpkin, so you can stay clean and the kids can have a great time!
After gutting your local pumpkin and cleaning all of the pumpkin pulp off, you have options.
You can either hull the seeds or keep them in their shell. The shell is absolutely edible but you can boil or bake them to get the outer shell off of the pepitas.
