We love getting to see creativity and entrepreneurship come together in a way that helps create business and enjoyment for the members of a community. One way this is seen in the Llano Estacado region is in Agritainment, or agri-tourism. Sometimes referred to as agri-entertainment, agritainment is defined as any sort of agriculture-based entertainment. The name was first used in 2008 with the founding of the Texas Crossroads Cowboy Gathering.
Some examples of agritainment include pick-your-own operations, harvest festivals, corn mazes, wine tastings, farm and ranch tours, and more. Agri-tourism is usually composed of three different aspects:
- sites or tours
- activities
- things to buy (refreshments, souvenirs, produce, etc)
Many of these farms are based upon a theme: seasons, holidays, or historic recreations. The cooler temperatures and beautiful colors associated with Fall make it a prime candidate for such events to occur.
Our region offers some great options for enjoying agritainment. We have compiled a list, but we would love for you to add suggestions of any places we might have missed!
