Kimberly Cantu, owner and baker at Sugarista, LLC has that special touch when it comes to baking the perfectly soft, gooey crunch that is mmmm, so good!

We met with Kimberly at Platform Restaurant, where she bakes and sells her uniquely mouth-watering cookies. During our visit, Kimberly (a.k.a. Sugarista) gave us the scoop on starting a business that is about giving warmth and love in the form of made-from-scratch goodies.

With a background in accounting, Sugarista is no stranger to the role numbers play in the business world. But…maybe it’s not about the numbers. It wasn’t until after eight years as a CPA that Kimberly thought she missed her calling. “I always wanted a Cadillac SRX. And I got it! I had a secure corporate job, I was making great money, and I had my dream car. But something was missing.”

Kimberly had another passion: baking. As she was baking at home one night, Kimberly realized all she had was brown sugar, which led to her first famous cookie. Kimberly began baking on the regular after that evening. “It was relaxing and totally stress relieving!”

When Kimberly began selling her cookies, she realized the impact that a warm cookie can have on someone’s day. “I began to love baking cookies, and experimenting with various flavors.” With a degree from Texas Tech University, Kimberly was partial to Lubbock, TX. “Lubbock was the happiest place I’d ever been, so on a leap of faith, I moved back to focus on Sugarista, LLC full time!”
