Local Llano is bringing back our Local Grind series in 2016. For those few who are not familiar with this series, every piece in the series takes an in-depth look into the local coffee sold on the Llano Estacado. What makes these local gems unique from national branches? This week we look at Gatsby’s Coffeehouse in Lubbock, Texas. Amanda Stewart, Gatsby’s proprietor and Texas Tech alumna, opened the coffee house’s doors in 2013 with the hopes of creating a comfortable atmosphere for coffee lovers to enjoy locally roasted coffee. Who knew this coffee shop would mean so much more to the community years later?
SMALL BUSINESSES STICK TOGETHER
Gatsby’s Coffeehouse partners with coffee roasters in Lubbock, Noblesse Coffee Company, to other roasters all over texas to bring a variety of tastes to the coffee fanatics of the Llano Estacado. Among these local micro roasters, Evocations Coffee Roasters in Amarillo, Texas previously featured in our Local Grind series! Gatsby’s also partners with local bakeries to sell delectable pastries that complement their sophisticated coffees brews. As you know, Local Llano is ALL about supporting local foodshed and the local producers. It is truly unique for a business to not only buy locally but create a supportive partnership with other small businesses and spread the wealth around the community.
SUPPORTIVE OF THE ARTS
As an alumna of Texas Tech University’s English Department, Amanda Stewart supports her alma mater by hosting a monthly reading series in the spring and fall semesters for the Texas Tech Creative Writing department. These hosted readings allow current students to showcase their work in a supportive atmosphere and sometimes feature published writers for encouragement and to offer experience. Gatsby’s Coffeehouse is also fully furnished with art for sale by local artists in the region. Supporting art is only one of the many ways Gatsby’s improves the community.
NEW ADDITIONS
Gatsby’s Coffeehouse is now a perfect destination for all of you weekend brunchers out there. This coffee shop has revamped new breakfast, brunch and lunch menus. However, this is not the only new addition to the coffeehouse. On the weekends, the coffeehouse is transformed into The Loft at Gatsby’s Coffeehouse. The Loft hosts events like live music, tournaments of all sorts and watch parties. This new addition also serves alcohol, specifically Texas beers and liquor. This is just another example of how Gatsby’s Coffeehouse is supporting our local foodshed. The Loft can also be rented out for small parties or you can bring the party to you, Gatsby’s caters as well!
